Background
The Witters Competition is the result of a gift from Colonel Arthur G. and Beverley Witters who have provided funds to sponsor an annual, juried competition in an effort to promote a collaborative approach among students and faculty within the College of Design, Construction and Planning’s five disciplines. The intent of the competition is to provide monetary scholarly awards to members of the multi-disciplinary student team that generates the winning solution to a project as a result of a day-long exercise.
At the request of the donors, the competition is held annually in the spring.
In response to an RFP for proposals, faculty in the College submit proposals for a real or hypothetical project which, if selected, will be organized and coordinated by the faculty or a team of faculty submitting the selected project proposal. In addition to other criteria, the proposal must provide a strategy to involve all five of the College’s disciplines in order to make the event a truly interdisciplinary competition. At the end of a day-long exercise by student teams, the various solutions are evaluated by a selected panel of jurors that determines the winning solution and the winning student team.
