Pelham lecture will focus on impacts of Florida’s growth management legislation
November 16, 2009 – Thomas G. Pelham, secretary of the Florida Department of Community Affairs, will speak about the real and potential impacts of Florida’s new growth management legislation on Thursday at the University of Florida.
The annual Ernest R. Bartley Memorial Lecture starts at 6:30 p.m. in Bless Auditorium at 100 Williamson Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Community Service and Education: Mapping Poverty in Alachua County
July 29, 2009 – In support of the mission of the Alachua County’s Poverty Reduction Advisory Board, the students of URP4273 Survey of Planning Information Systems Spring 2009 Class used Geographic Information Science (GIS) to identify areas of highest levels of poverty in Alachua County.
URP Awarded Grant for a National Childhood Obesity Prevention GIS
July 28, 2009 – This past February several faculty members of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning began work on a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to plan a Childhood Obesity Prevention Geographic Information System.

UF hosts symposium debating costs of sustainable development in Fla.
April 14, 2009 – The department of urban and regional planning in the College of Design, Construction and Planning at the University of Florida hosted the symposium “Sustainable Development: Is Going Green Worth the Green?” on April 15 in the Reitz Union as part of the department’s annual Planning Day.
DCP-led team to exhibit at EPA sustainable design expo
April 07, 2009 – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will host the 2009 National Sustainable Design Expo April 18 to 20 on the National Mall in Washington D.C., featuring student teams from the EPA’s P3 Award competition.
Talking water in Florida
March 05, 2009 – The College hosted the National Academy of Environmental Design’s Water and Sustainability Symposium Feb. 16 to 17, bringing academics and professionals in the design field together with scientists and engineers to identify needed legislation and other action for reducing water demand and improving water flow and quality.
Conference on urban issues in Latin America to be hosted by UF
January 16, 2009 – The title of the 58th Annual Conference of the University of Florida Center for Latin American Studies is “The Urban Divide in Latin America: Challenges and Strategies for Social Inclusion.” The conference will take place Jan. 28-30, 2009 at the Reitz Student Union on the UF campus. The conference is co-sponsored by the UF College of Design, Construction and Planning.
Two UF student teams win $10,000 EPA grants
December 03, 2008 – Two University of Florida teams received $10,000 grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to develop sustainability projects at opposite ends of the Earth: improving a reservoir that purifies stored rainfall for the village of Sissene, Burkina Faso, in Western Africa and measuring cellulosic ethanol production made from Florida pine forests.
