About . . .Christopher Klemek Christopher Klemek is assistant professor of history at George Washington University, and splits his time between New York City and the District of Columbia. He earned his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania, having previously attended Ohio State University, the University of Hamburg, and the Free University of Berlin. His doctoral thesis received the best dissertation prize from the Urban History Association in 2005, and was also named visiting scholar at the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in Cambridge. With sponsorship from the Rockefeller Foundation and the Municipal Art Society of New York, he co-curated a 2007 exhibition for the Urban Center Galleries and co-edited the accompanying publication, Block by Block: Jane Jacobs and the Future of New York (Princeton Architectural Press, 2008). His forthcoming book, Urbanism as Reform: Modernist Planning and the Crisis of Urban Liberalism in Europe and North America, 1945-1975, will be published by the University of Chicago Press.
