About . . .Julian Chambliss

Julian Chambliss is assistant professor of history at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. His research examines city planning activism and policy formation in the Progressive Era. Dr. Chambliss teaches race and ethnicity, urban history, city planning history, African-American history, and cultural history courses. In addition to traditional pedagogy Dr. Chambliss has directed several student oral history projects focused on housing, gentrification, and race. His recent publications have appeared in Encyclopedia of the Great Migration, Journal of Urban History, Florida Historical Quarterly, and Ohio Valley History. He has also received a Florida Humanities Council for Placing Memory, Exploring Context: Winter Park's Colony Theatre an exploration of urban development in Winter Park. His current manuscript project is an examination of the American Civic Association and its role promoting planning ideas in the United States. Dr. Chambliss serves as the President of Florida Conference of Historians and Co-Chair of the Social Science History Association's Urban Network.
