Location & Facilities

Architecture Building

Built in 1979, the Architecture Building is an 83,800 square-foot building where DCP's schools and departments share space.

The University of Florida is located in Alachua County along Interstate 75. Jacksonville and the state of Georgia are within a 90-minute drive, and Tampa, Daytona Beach and Orlando are all only about two hours away. In addition to out-of-state projects, many DCP classes focus their studies on the architecture of many cities in Florida; including Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Tampa, Lakeland and Miami.

Alachua County is in North Central Florida and DCP can be found at the heart of the county. Situated in Gainesville, the University is a landmark in North Florida and many of DCP's faculty and students contribute to the development of the area.

Gainesville, Florida is located directly east of exits 382-390 on Interstate 75 in the center of Alachua County. If approaching from the south, get off I-75 at exit 384 and take Archer Road east into town. If coming from the north, exit at exit 387 and follow Newberry Road (which becomes University Avenue) east into town. Archer Road and University Avenue define the southern and northern boundaries of the University's campus, respectively.

Rinker Hall

Designed and constructed as a green building, Rinker Hall uses 55 percent less energy than typical buildings of its size.

The College of DCP is on the western side of the University campus along 13th street. The University of Florida is a highly pedestrian-focused campus, so parking is limited.

The academic programs and resources are located in three buildings on campus: the Architecture Building, the Fine Arts Complex building, and Rinker Hall. Off-campus facilities are located in Vicenza, Italy and Nantucket Island.

DCP's schools and departments share space in the Fine Arts Building for classes, wood shop, offices and studios. It is adjacent to the School of Music, numerous student housing facilities, and the University's administrative building. The Dean's Office and the Student Advising Center are located on the third floor of the Architecture Building in Room 331.

The College of DCP provides diverse facilities and resources to help students in their educational experience. Among the most significant resources available are: the Architecture & Fine Arts Library, the Architecture Gallery, 24 hour computer labs, a plot room, 24 hour studios, a wood shop and the auditorium at the Harn Museum, where several Lecture Series are hosted. The Architecture and Fine Arts Library and the Visual Resources Center are the largest collections of their kind in the Southeast. They provide books, government documents, American and foreign periodicals, subject files, microtext, slides, photographs, reproductions and other materials. The A.F.A. Library maintains its own rare book collection for scholarly research. Services include a professional reference service ready to assist in guidance and information searches. The Architecture Gallery hosts regular displays of student projects. It also showcases traveling exhibitions of significant works from noteworthy architects past and present, providing you with exposure to historical precedents and contemporary currents in the field.
