Acomb, Parisi inducted into ASLA Council of Fellows
September 22, 2009 – At first glance, Glenn Acomb and Rick Parisi seem to have little in common. Acomb is a Florida resident while Parisi hails from New York. Acomb teaches for a living, while Parisi works for an architecture firm. However, there are three things that these men do share in common: the University of Florida, a dedication to architecture and two new spots on the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows.

World Monuments Fund exhibition on preserving modern architecture opens Sept. 8
August 27, 2009 – “Modernism at Risk: Modern Solutions for Saving Modern Landmarks,” an exhibition organized by the World Monuments Fund and sponsored by Knoll Inc., will travel to design schools and other venues across the United States beginning with the University of Florida’s College of Design, Construction and Planning.

Planning an eco-friendly community
August 24, 2009 – The vision of partners Mark Anderson and Ron Rosen began to take shape as a team of 20 experts shared ideas about the builders’ 12-acre sustainable residential community, Sea Glass.

UF Solar Decathlon team to use materials from 1870s Fla. house
July 20, 2009 – The UF Solar Decathlon team’s house design for the 2010 Solar Decathlon Europe competition focuses on sustainable materials and adopts passive cooling strategies of early Florida vernacular architecture. So it is fitting that the team reuses materials from a local Florida building to construct a modern, zero-energy house.

New director researching nomination of island to World Heritage List
June 23, 2009 – This summer, the University of Florida Preservation Institute: Nantucket (PI:N) will begin a new mission with its new director, interior design assistant professor Morris “Marty” Hylton III.

June 04, 2009 – The University of Florida Preservation Institute: Nantucket will sponsor the lecture “Saving the World’s Heritage: The Work of the World Monuments Fund” by Bonnie Burnham, president of the World Monuments Fund, or WMF, 6 p.m. on July 10 at the historic Coffin School at 4 Winter St.

Solar Decathlon team wins UF sustainability award
April 22, 2009 – The University of Florida Office of Sustainability today presented nine trophies and several honorable mentions to a wide variety of organizations and departments across campus for their excellent contributions to sustainability at UF.

UF hosts symposium debating costs of sustainable development in Fla.
April 14, 2009 – The department of urban and regional planning in the College of Design, Construction and Planning at the University of Florida hosted the symposium “Sustainable Development: Is Going Green Worth the Green?” on April 15 in the Reitz Union as part of the department’s annual Planning Day.
