Landscape architecture students in Peggy Carr’s Site
Planning course hope to generate ideas and stimulate thinking as they present
13 designs for shared use of two Alachua County schools’ recreational
areas at an open house on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Middle School’s
media center.
The students at the University of Florida’s College of Design, Construction
and Planning have been working with the School Board of Alachua County, the
City of Gainesville Recreation and Parks Department and residents of the neighborhoods
surrounding Lincoln Middle School and Williams Elementary to design the recreational
areas of each school in order to allow both school and public use of the property.
“Many issues affected the class designs, including the
tight budgets affecting the school and city, the security of the elementary
and middle school students
and ensuring proper drainage from the site,” Carr said. “Most importantly,
our emphasis was on serving the immediate community.”
The students are presenting their designs to solicit feedback
from neighborhood stakeholders and the general community. The event is free
and open to the public.
