LAA 6536 – Landscape Management

General
The goal of this course is to develop and refine our ability to
make planning and design decisions based upon sound landscape management
practices that are, in turn, based upon fundamental principles of
ecology and landscape ecology.
Objectives
· Refine our knowledge base of ecology and its application
to natural resource management.
· Develop a fundamental knowledge base of landscape ecology.
· Develop a basic understanding of resource management principles that are based upon fundamental principles of ecology and landscape ecology.
· Develop the ability to plan, design and maintain the landscape based upon sound ecological and resource management
principles.
Performance
· Examinations shall test a student’s knowledge and
understanding of the principles of ecology and landscape ecology
and their application to landscape planning, design and management.
· Projects may be assigned that test a student’s ability to apply course material to planning, design and maintenance practices.
· A term paper will be required to ensure sufficient exploration of a principle or concept related to landscape management.
Typically, grading will follow a schedule similar to this:
• project 1--20%
• midterm--25%
• paper--20%
• final--25%
