LAA 6322 - Landscape Architecture Project Management
3 credits Lecture

General
The course is designed to present the professional practice of landscape architecture in private and public arenas. The course will utilize a lecture format with homework assignments to complement the content of the lectures.

Objectives
The purpose of this course is to provide an understanding of the professional practices and understanding of the business of landscape architecture. The following subjects will be included:

• To provide an overview of practice and licensure.

• To understand the types of offices in practice (private and public)

• To learn the relationships of clients to practitioners, firms and agencies.

• To understand office organization and areas of practice.

• To learn marketing techniques and styles of presentations.

• To develop skills in preparing effective proposals.

• To understand risk and professional liability.

• To learn general applications of law and contracts.

• To learn bid and construction phase responsibilities.

• To develop a general understanding of office financial operations.

• To understand ethics and professional conduct.

Performance
It is expected that each student will be able to demonstrate qualitative growth for each of the objectives by the end of the course. Course grade will be based on reading assignments and problem solving skills as they relate to the achievement of the objectives. A grade of C or better is necessary to graduate.
