LAA 2360: Principles of Landscape Architecture
5 credit, Studio
Corequisite: LAA 2330
General
This is the final studio of the pre-professional design sequence
for landscape architecture majors and is taught by landscape architecture
faculty. The primary emphasis of the course is the conveyance, understanding
and application of landscape architectural design methodologies,
and to a lesser extent landscape materials and technical skills.
This design studio builds on the foundation of general educational
courses; ARC 1701, 1301, 1302, 2303; LAA 1920, 2710; and ORH 3513.
Objectives
The objective of this studio is to gain a clear understanding of
the design process as it relates to the application of landscape
architectural design methodologies including the application of
landscape materials, technical skills and effective graphic, written
and verbal communication. The studio projects will focus on developing
skills in:
Performance
It is expected that each landscape architecture student will be
able to demonstrate qualitative growth in the 4 objective areas
by the end of the semester. Competency must be demonstrated in decision
making and form determination based upon the students understanding
of the landscape architecture design process.
Prior to being accepted to professional studies, each student must present a compendium of design work for review by the landscape architecture faculty and must receive passing grades in the two corequisite courses for the semester.
While not a condition for acceptance, each student
is encouraged to seek an internship with a professional firm during
the summer prior to entering professional studies.
