Possible Research Areas for Masters Thesis

The intent of the Master of Interior Design degree is to accommodate the personal interests of the student and to promote specialization. Possible areas in which faculty can support theses efforts include:

  • Historic preservation and restoration of interior spaces
  • Environment and behavior issues related to the interaction between human populations (e.g. children, elderly, disabled) and space
  • Design process including programming, participatory design involving the public, post occupancy evaluations, and design education
  • Computer aided design techniques and application in interior design
  • Popular culture and design
  • Sustainable design including efficient use of energy and materials
  • Lighting
  • Corporate design and workplace issues
  • Educational settings
  • Healthcare, universal design, and elderly housing
  • Hospitality design
