Peter E. Prugh, AIA, APA A professional architect, planner
and an Associate Professor of Architecture at UF since 1974,
Prof. Prugh is the coordinator for preservation studies in
the MS degree program and Director since 1996 of the Preservation
Institute: Nantucket (PI:N), UF's off-campus program on Nantucket
Island which has offered summer preservation coursework since
1972 and sponsors research, public awareness, professional
and academic programs in historic preservation throughout
the year. Prof. Prugh is co-director with Prof. William L.
Tilson of UF's Research and Education Center for Architectural
Preservation (RECAP), which conducts funded research in preservation
related areas and provides graduate students access to research
assistantships and real world professional experiences in
preservation. Educated with a professional Bachelor of Architecture
degree from UF (1971) and a Master of Architecture from the
Harvard Graduate School of Design (1974).
Prof. Prugh teaches design studios at all levels, building
technology, history, preservation coursework, and mentors
students in thesis or masters research projects. In addition
to preservation projects his research agenda includes community
redevelopment and economic revitalization, design for the
elderly, energy conservation and sustainability, and corporate
strategic facilities planning. His professional practice has
embraced a wide range of architectural and planning projects
for which he has received several design awards. Public service
has included many community advisory boards & committees,
six years on the Gainesville Plan Board, many years serving
on UF's P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School Advisory
Committee, preservation boards on Nantucket Island and in
1996-97 assisting the architecture program at the Polytechnic
University in Tirana, Albania with development of design education
programs.
