3 credits (Spring)
Computer Applications for Three-dimensional Design introduces students
to several important graphics applications that many designers use
within the design process. Students will learn how to represent the
built environment using two and three-dimensional Computer-aided design
software.
We want students to understand how these various applications
work and how to use them creatively as communication tools within
the design process. Thus, the secondary purpose of this course
is to investigate when, and how various applications contribute
to the exploration, analysis and to the representation of building
interiors. We intend to explore these applications by focusing
on their strengths as visual thinking and communication tools
within the design process.
Objectives
This course builds computer literacy among students. The intention
of the Computers for Three dimensional design is to teach computer
skills that apply to and support design thinking, design processes,
and design communication. Stressing that the computer is a common
(although a very powerful) tool and not special tool, this course
emphasizes using computer graphics as an additional type of design
media. Thus, the goal of the course is to promote the everyday
use of the computer in three-dimensional design visualization
and analysis and to prepare students to use computers throughout
the interior design curriculum.
The specific objectives of the course are to:
