Study of interior materials, focusing on their characteristics and estimating, fabrication and installation.

Objectives

  • To explore the diversity of interior architecture building and finishing materials or group of materials.
  • To establish basic concepts of: human perception, psychology and need for comfort; aesthetics, iconography, image, symbolism; performance, maintenance and cost effectiveness.
  • To understand personal and cultural differences in aesthetic preferences.
  • To realize regional differences in availability , performance, and, cost effectiveness of materials.
  • To explore the visual and physical characteristics, properties and functions of different materials.
  • To understand fabrication methods and its implications in design, installation, performance, maintenance, and cost.
  • To develop awareness of the implications of materials choice in health and life safety.
  • To realize the necessary use of codes in reference to life safety and building requirements.
  • To understand installation procedures.
  • To explore estimating methods for material consumption, pricing, and final cost.
