Conceptual process, design theory and programmatic concerns involved in residential, institutional and commercial interior design. Emphasis is placed on visual communications techniques including an explanation of media and the forms of visual communication of design concepts.

Objectives

  • To provide initial study in media that evolve and communicate design concepts to a public audience
  • To provide a framework for investigation of perspective drawing, typography, layout and composing, photographics, schematic design and diagramming, printing processes, and introductory color theory
  • To become directly involved with he hand manipulation of media including graphite, color pencils, dry markers, pen and ink, watercolor, spray media, photocopies, and black-line printing
  • To become familiar with the drawing surfaces of hot and cold press illustration board, mylar, vellum, stipple board and various appropriate paper products
  • To enhance skills and confidence in drawing through practice and observation
  • To promote visual acuity and perceptual awareness
  • To utilize drawing as a means for discovery, investigation and documentation of architectural ideas
  • To interact with and understand the significance of electronic image making and computer design
  • To provide an opportunity for students in related areas (with instructor permission) to study the specialty of design communication
