Interior environmental conditions will be considered in relation to human sensory reactions, psychological factors, health, safety and satisfaction. The vocabulary and concepts of interior environmental technology will be related to the process of interior design

Objectives

  • To establish basic concepts of human-built environment, building systems, shelter, building technology, building envelope, environmental quality and sustainability
  • To realize regional and cultural differences in building technology
  • To apprehend the characteristics and functions of a building
  • To understand the linkage between building functions
  • To apprehend the characteristics and functions of each building technology system (passive and/or active): ventilation, lighting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, acoustics, alternate energy, structure, accessibility, finishings
  • To perceive the structural and spatial integration of building technology systems
  • To realize the relationship of the building technology systems with the natural and human-built environment
  • To explore the use of codes
  • To comprehend cultural and socially constructed building restrictions
  • To understand contemporary environmental issues through a critical thinking process
  • To realize the role of the interior designer in improving environmental quality
