Introduction to lighting design based upon critical awareness of the luminous environment, and principles and perception of light. Graphic exercises in lighting design and lighting calculations based on student design solutions.

Objectives

  • To begin building a critical awareness of the luminous environment as both a user and a designer.
  • To examine the luminous environment and develop a process of lighting design to meet the fundamental goals of a successful visual environment.
  • To design a comfortable, useable space that provides light for all functions, enhances the spatial and surface qualities of the architectural environment and is aesthetically pleasing and interesting.
