A systematic overview of construction systems, technologies and materials with emphasis on the design of interior systems and the detailing of theses systems as an extension of the overall design concept.

Objectives

  • Construction documents as a system of assumptions, accepted principles and rules of procedure devised to explain and communicate the design solution to various occupations
  • An exploration and evaluation of a structural system and the contribution they make to the character of interior space and the support of human need
  • Practice making decision that integrate human needs an the designer’s aesthetic intentions with the longevity of the building and its impact on the world’s resources
  • Apply knowledge about connecting the finish detailing with the structural systems and communicating that knowledge in working drawings
  • Practice the application of knowledge regarding the execution of finish detailing consistent with the design intent
  • Apply knowledge about the interactions between interior design and finish detailing that affect indoor air quality
  • Understanding of the intentions of building codes and their interaction with design decisions, construction, and construction details
  • Integration of issues associated with climatic conditioning and the application of passive and active systems that integrate with design intentions, structure and finish detailing
