The course provides an overview of the interior design profession. The design of interiors to enhance human activity while observing life safety codes and human performance is stress-ed. Examination of significant interiors and furniture components will overview the design process. Objectives To broaden the student’s understanding of this growing and lively profession To relate the focus in the architectural design courses to interior design To explore the problem solving methodology used in interior design To expose the students to the ideas and concepts underlying the design of architectural interiors, including influences from related fields of design, the social and behavioral sciences and the fine arts To assist the student in forming a basis for judgments about design, design criticism and design communication as they relate to interior design To provide an introduction to design vocabulary, communication, and principles and elements of design related specifically to interior design To assist the non-major to form good judgments about the importance of interior design in shaping and building a meaningful interior environment that enhances places for living, working and recreation.
