Admissions Process

All students seeking admission to the lower division must apply through the Registrar's Office of Admissions.

University of Florida Students

Students who complete the first two years of the undergraduate degree at the University of Florida must pass the selective admissions procedures before admission into the upper division.

Community College Students

Students enrolled in community colleges must complete an Associate of Arts degree prior to applying to the interior design upper division. The math (college algebra/trigonometry), physics (Applied physics), and basic drawing classes should be included in the AA work. If Architecture studio courses are available at the community college they should be taken as well.

All community college transfer students must complete the CLAST Examination and all General
Education requirements.

Undergraduate Transfer Students

During the last semester of your studies for the Associates of Arts degree OR in accordance to the application deadlines if you are not currently attending school send your application materials to the Office of Admission. When the required information has been received, Admissions will put your application on the online referral system for this department. We try to respond to applications within a week of the time they are placed online.

Post Baccalaureate Students

Applicants who have earned a bachelor or masters degree may be accepted for post-baccalaureate to complete leveling work and the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) in preparation for entering the Master of Interior Design (MID) program. Specific course work for students pursuing the MID will depend on the applicant’s background, design aptitude and progress as assessed by the Graduate Coordinator.

In response to policy changes at the University of Florida, all post-baccalaureate students will be directed toward the Master of Interior Design (MID) program. The Office of Admissions forwards a hard copy of the post-baccalaureate application packet to the department and we try to respond to you within a week of receiving your packet. Post-baccalaureate students will be admitted to complete course work required to prepare for this advanced degree program. Your application and the requested transcript information, test scores (including GRE’s and TOEFL, for international students) must be forwarded to the Office of Admissions. Having successfully completed leveling course work, students will need to apply for the MID program.

The interior design curriculum is divided into Lower and Upper division. Lower division is the first two years of the program, upper division is the second two years of the program.

Students seeking admission into the upper division must make application through the department while enrolled in IND 2214 (spring semester of the second year) The student must provide a letter of application and must design and install an exhibit of work from design studios. Each year approximately 32 students are selected to enter the upper division professional program. Applicants must be highly motivated, have a minimum GPA of 2.80 and their exhibit must demonstrate strong design skills.
