GRADUATE ADMISSIONS

Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission should have:

1. A Bachelors Degree
2. GRE scores of 1000 or better (verbal + quantitative)
3. A grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Applicants with a non-design education must complete preliminary Interior Design undergraduate courses. Taking leveling courses equalizes the master degree student's academic opportunities in the interior design. The added course work will be composed of lower and upper division classes that students usually complete in two to four semesters of full-time study.

If you have an undergraduate degree with a grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and GRE scores of at least 1100 (verbal and quantitative), Admissions will send your file to the Department of Interior Design where graduate faculty members will review your application. Based on your experience and previous education, a course of study (including leveling courses if needed) will be recommended.

Students entering the MID will work with the Graduate Coordinator to evaluate their educational experiences and to determine the specific courses recommended to facilitate their interests.

It is the applicant's responsibility to provide complete documentation to the Office of Admissions and to the Interior Design Department.

Post Baccalaureate Students

Applicants who have earned a bachelor or masters degree may be accepted for post-baccalaureate to complete leveling work and the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) in preparation for entering the Master of Interior Design (MID) program. Specific course work for students pursuing the MID will depend on the applicant’s background, design aptitude and progress as assessed by the Graduate Coordinator.

In response to policy changes at the University of Florida, all post-baccalaureate students will be directed toward the Master of Interior Design (MID) program. The Office of Admissions forwards a hard copy of the post-baccalaureate application packet to the department and we try to respond to you within a week of receiving your packet. Post-baccalaureate students will be admitted to complete course work required to prepare for this advanced degree program. Your application and the requested transcript information, test scores (including GRE’s and TOEFL, for international students) must be forwarded to the Office of Admissions. Having successfully completed leveling course work, students will need to apply for the MID program.

Application Deadlines

All new students begin their studies in the fall semester to coincide with curriculum sequencing. Applications for fall admission must be received by February 2. Applications that are not complete by the deadline may not be processed. Admission is determined by the Graduate Coordinator with the assistance of faculty members in each field of study.

The deadline for applications for international students (who are not permanent residents of the U.S.) is January 10. Applications that are not complete by the deadline may not be processed.
